Charles Eugene Gauthier murdered Annette Elizabeth Frederika Christina Pepper 30 at Hillcrest, 208 Mile Oak Road, Portslade, Brighton on 15 March 1943. He shot her.

Charles Gauthier was a Canadian soldier and was having an affair with Annette Pepper. He was recalled to Canada but returned two months later to find that she was having an affair with another man. He took his machine gun to her house and attempted to speak to her. He fired several shots through the window hitting the man and when Annette Pepper went to the door he shot her four times.
